MAOIs and surgery

It is quite possible to be safely aenesthetised while on an MAOI. It is ridiculous for a person treated for psychiatric disease to be forced to accomdate the anesthesiologist, rather than the otehr way round. If your anesthesiologist is too incompotent to know this, you shoudl ask for a better one.

I find this to be immensely frustrating. It is quite clear that this is true, yet patients are routinely forced to discontinue their medicine, with possible adverse effect on psychiatric efficacy. I think it because of the common arrogance of doctors.
