GSK-3b inhibition by mood stabilizers decrease depression and increases the brain's responce to serotonin in mice lacking tryptophan hydroxylase.

Lithium, valproate and omega-3 are GSK-3b inhibitors. This activity may underly their augmentative effect in clinical depression. I think there is also an interaction between GSK-3b and p11 (gsk-3b inhibition increases post synaptic responsiveness of 5-ht1b receptors).
There is a reciprocol effect too (low serotonin increases gsk-3b activity). GSK-3b also has some regulatory effect on the circadian rhyhtem.
