I suggest that you look for an older doctor who actually had experience with MAOIs prior to the SSRIs being released. The younger ones often jump on the SSRI bandwagon because they're "new". I personally do much better on the older tricyclics, but I don't have social phobia (a bit of shyness, but manageable).
I live in central FL, too, but can't give you any specific names. There's a shyness meetup group in Orlando; don't know anyone in it, but my experience living with someone with social phobia is that exposure therapy or actually getting out there to practice your social skills is absolutely essential. Cognitive behavioral and/or medications won't be maximized without exposure.

Good luck to you!

> I'm on Nardil 75 mg for social phobia and I'm trying to switch to Parnate. My family dr prescribed Nardil, after going through every medication in the world, and after constant begging on my part. The Nardil is not working, so I asked him if we could switch to Parnate. He isn't that familiar with MAOI's, so he really wants me to go back to a pDoc, which I was seeing prior to losing my insurance.
