I've only tried one Tricyclic - amitriptyline. My main problems revolve around anxiety and I guess amitriptyline only helped a little with it. It's supposed to be the gold standard for depression but it didn't really cut much ice with my anxiety - including social phobia.

As regards weight gain, it caused none with me whatsoever. It did, however, cause dry mouth, difficulty in urinating, constipation, excessive sweating, blurred vision...!
Amitriptyline is not stimulating - it induces drowsiness on taking the dose, however, this seemed to wear off with me a after three or four months.

Amitriptyline may well be worth considering as it caused no weight gain with me at all, but the anticholigenic side effects (listed above) can be unpleasant!! I've also read that it can put a strain on the heart in long-term therapy.

Good luck!
