Interesting. No one knows for sure why relapses can happen. Either the bug is very tricky at hiding, or it goes dormant where it can't be found by meds, or maybe it is impossible to kill every single last one of them. All it takes is for one stupid cell to survive and then later remultiply.That's why the best outcomes are usually minimum 9 months and up to 2 years on antibiotics. Some people take maintenance doses forever. Some people do fine for a long time and then return for retreatment when they feel a relapse coming on. Some people are cured forever.
The fact that you felt good on antibiotics says a lot. Feeling either bad or good is diagnostic. Someone who is not infected wouldn't feel much of anything except maybe get a little heartburn.
