"do'nt do this or that without your doc" is all about determining liability, not about improving outcomes. its like warning labels. but even annoying warning labels are good, we all have times we forget and have accidents, i like having a backspace key on my keyboard, and theres plenty of bozos running around too, but somewhere along the way doctors decided to they weren't just giving advice but they were going decide value judgments for us too, which maybe is defensible for opioids or something, but much of the time its just doctors trying to maintain their priesthood status by presenting front of total knowledge which requires total obedience. (placebo->spiritual healing. serotonin and cortisol and dopamine->the spirits and demons that haunt and heal us. they even wear goddamn robes.) i have to lol so hard when you see something like "don't combine this supplement w/o talking to your doctor." your doctor didn't read the latest journal article they were billing insurance companies and playing golf, and you can't get the drug without their permission anyway. so instead of discussing the costs and benefits, just find a new doctor who agrees with you.
