Thank you for posting the previous messages. The last one while a lot to take in right now for me does offer some encouragement. I did discuss lithium with my doctor for long term treatment, but right now I have non-respondent recurrent depression and severe insomnia:
Current meds are 150 mg seroquel, 14 mg valium, 150mg Nortriptyline.He gave me two choices
1)add 50mg of trazodone to help with sleep and increase the seroquel to 200 mg, all others the same,2)Increase the valium to 20mg and the seroquel to 200mg and leave the nortriptyline at 150mg.
I have had many boughts of recurrent depression gotten of all the meds and then appeared fine for a while but eventually relapsed. Since November until now has been one of the worst episodes for me as I have relapsed very quickly when I began tapering the meds. This never happened before.
The seroquel makes me uncomfortable because of the potential side effects. I also think the valium is causing me some problems.
However, I have read numerous postings on this board and am thankful for the responses and support that I have received... But I get kind of uncomfortable thinking about having a mix of many medications. I know from the postings that many people do and appear to be fine with it.
Besides not being able to think clearly now, I have the severe insomnia to deal with. I slept about 2 hours last night. When I started tapering off the meds I felt great was active involved with things, etc. The problem was I was getting very little sleep. Then the depression returned.
Now I am a train wreck. I think lithium for me is a good alternative for maintenance; I don't know what to do to get me out of my current depression.
I hope I am not violating any rules but I am going to start another thread to find out if anyone has had problems with trazodone and Nortriptyline taken together.
