Revisiting memantine (Namenda) - glutamate

Posted by SLS on June 18, 2009, at 16:08:32

Now that I have resolved my two-month Lamictal (lamotrigine) generic substitution fiasco, I have decided to revisit taking memantine, which I had thought was making me feel worse. Because I ended up relapsing more severely over time on the generic, I cannot properly evaluate how I would have responded to memantine had I remained on the name brand Lamictal. I am now up to 100mg of Topamax.

It was my idea to hit glutamate from 3 different directions:

1. Lamictal (lamotrigine): glutamate release inhibitor

2. Namenda (memantine): NMDA glutamate receptor antagonist

3. Topamax (topiramate): AMPA/kainite glutamate receptor antagonist.

I am somewhat optimistic.

Currently:

Parnate 80mg
nortriptyline 150mg
Lamictal 200mg
Abilify 20mg
Namenda 20mg
Topamax 100mg
