If they are the same as climara, vivelle, promethium, evismist why are the patches FDA approved and creams not since pharmacists taught to compound as part of education and some compound as need specialized doses of other types of meds? >
The FDA approval process of some stuff versus others of the same type has to do with testing, proof of effectiveness, safety and so forth. If you look at the nature of the absorption and utilization of supplemental hormones, the conversion of what the body uses happens in the liver --- the FDA approved items state they are bioId until converted in the liver. I'm thinking ALL versions of {effective} hormones go thur the liver conversion process so the fact the bioId's are touted as being better for the body due to the structure of their molecules doesn't really mean much.
Of the females I've known to use hormone supplements, most found them most effective for the well documented physical symptoms of menopause. While that may help some feel better emotionally, I'm not sure if the emotional problems are longstanding, deeprooted and of a clinical diagnosible level I don't think their use alone is going to make any big impact.
As far as antiaging, I don't think supplementing hormones has turned out to be or will turn out to be any magic elixier. Our bodies --- organs and body processes age.
I would explore other avenues of treatment if it were me.
