Can Geodon/ziprasidone capsules be opened?

Posted by Brainbeard on July 2, 2009, at 14:58:32

Well, the question posed in the subject is, when taken literally, a no-brainer: of course they can. The real question is: is the contents of the capsule soluble in any kind of liquid so that a 20mg dose could be divided in, say, two 10mg doses? Any experiences?

I ask because I consider taking low dose ziprasidone (Geodon) for 5HT2A and perhaps -C augmentation of SSRI pharmacotherapy. I've been on a low dose of Risperdal (0.5-1mg), another potent 5HT2A-blocker, and it worked wonders for depression, social anxiety and lack of motivation.

I think that because of Geodon's short half-life, it should best be dosed twice a day; but 2 x 20mg would already be too much for what I'm after, I'm afraid.
