In reply to Anyone tried Honokiol ( magnolia) for anxiety/dep, posted by Jasmine Neroli on August 14, 2003, at 2:11:52
I tried Relora and didnt like it at all - made me feel tired with an ill feeling and felt strange. On the other hand I tried 100 mg purified Honokiol by itself and it was awesome how it worked. I slept well and very deep for three nights so far, felt refreshed and calm and not tired. Will see if it has tolerance but I have read it does not in animal studies. I'm going to keep taking it because it also helps with neuroregenation, is 1000 times stronger than vitamin E as an antioxidant, is anti-inflammatory for severe inflammatory arthritis, and many more benefits.

> I have just discovered Honokiol, a substance found in Magnolia bark, used by the Japanese for centuries against anxiety and stress. It's supposed to have mild anxiolytic properties, without the sedation (unless you take large doses for sedation). It may also help with depression. I was wondering if anyone is familiar with it/has experience and/or an opinion. I'm looking for an alternative to the usual psychopharmacological stuff, due to all the side effects.
> After 5 weeks of experimenting at different dosages of Remeron, I've finally stopped taking it. The side effects were too much and although I lament the lovely sleeps it gave me, I gotta try something else. I am firmly convinced that my anxiety/depression/insomnia is mainly (female)hormonal, with some cortisol overload due to prolonged stress. I am correcting some of that with HRT and various supplements , such as all the fatty acids and B6 (p5p), Calcium & Magnesium. I already feel better to a degree, but sleeping is still a bit of an issue. I have started on Relora,a honokiol supplement and hope that will also add to evening out any mild anxiety I will still get and relax me enough to sleep. Feedback please and thanks.
