Doxylamine + benzo for insomnia?

Posted by quiet_one on August 11, 2009, at 1:57:11

Over the years i've built up a tolerance to benzos. I need to take 60mg of oxazepam or about 15 - 20mg diazepam just to sleep. I only use them about twice a week on average so I don't become dependant on them.

My doctor said I need to come down on dose before I develop any more tolerance so I was wondering if anyone here combines a benzo with doxylamine for a stronger effect? How much should I take if combining the two? I'm guessing 10mg diazepam + 25mg doxylamine = about 20mg of diazepam alone?

If anyone has had experience doing this, please post the approx equivalent dosages based on your experience.

Sometimes I take avanza (instead of benzos) on some nights when its really bad, but 15mg makes me way too drowsy and irritable the next day. Would cutting down to 7.5mg be any better? Some people say a lower dose can actually make you more drowsy, but is this true when comparing 7.5mg to 15mg?
