I've been on meds, including large doses of ssri's, for over 15 years, and my life has improved leaps and bounds. No I don't have EVERY perfect day, but I can actually live and enjoy life. Plus, even with meds, I too still have to make the effort, work very hard on myself, which i have learn't a great deal about psychology; proper social interaction; and becoming a kinder, gentler person. I remember the horror before meds. I will never let myself get like that again. Plus, I think it is more then just some doctor say giving you a small starting dose of an antidepressant and that is it. I think all AD's should forever be used with a benzo. Plus, the atypical antipsychotics work amazingly well, as well as various mood stabilizers. I completed a Graduate university on heavy medication, and it actually seemed to make it easier then in the past, before meds.
