I don't think that these drugs antagonize each other pharmacologically at the same sites.
I don't know what are the net effects of this combination of drugs. I think it probably depends on the dosages used. If you give someone enough Valium, it will certainly counter the alerting effects of amphetamine and put you to sleep, even though these drugs act on different neurotransmitters.
Actually, it has been observed that amphetamine can have an antimanic effect for certain people. So, I don't know that taking amphetamine will always produce mania, especially with the Depakote on board.
Since there is no obvious competition for receptor sites with these drugs, and your doctor is willing to experiment, you might as will give it a try.
Maybe Linkadge can shed some light on this situation.
