I did the same as Maxine.
I believe the switchover from Paxil to Prozac was fast and quick. I did not have any tapering of Paxil, just stopped it and went to Prozac the same day. I can't remember anymore than that.
It must have been in the mid 90's. It's all in my drug archives, begun in the late 1980's...Nardil, Marplan, Prozac, Paxil...and so on. Paxil I only tried once with marginal effects, so it doesn't hold a memory for me like some of the others. I finally have stopped my med merry go round. I thought I'd never get off of it.
I stopped it on my own with lots of research. It is not an easy road but avery long one. Once on it, you will never get off it. For so many of us, my life has been defined by depression, but I'm finally out from under it. May not be permanent, but it feels very good.
One thing I've realized that even when depression is under control, life is very, very hard. There is no easy road in life. But depression makes life unbearable and not worth living.
Persistence to find answers is the only way and to find something valuable to do with your life once you recover.
