I took Marplan very successfully until it was discontinued in the late 90's, so everyone on Marplan had to get off (Good luck) and try and find another med that would work for them. I never found one as successful as Marplan.
From when Marplan was discontinued through the last few years, I essentially was a guinea pig and tried hundreds of meds in combination and alone with very little success. Years were lost to drug trials with no real long term success. Marplan probably worked for a few years at the time it was eliminated. I was devastated and hardly recovered from that situation.
So that is why Marplan might be underutilized today. I informed my doc of it's release again in 2003 and I tried it a year or two after that without success. Unfortunately, as it had been very efficacious for me, allowing me to keep a job for 7 years (my longest ever). I crashed and burned big time, losing my mental stability and the job. Double whammy!
That is the dilemma with meds working once and never again. It is very common.
I think the new version of Marplan is not the same formula, same as what happened to Nardil after it's reformulation. Never will know as I would love there to be more on Marplan here to test its usefulness. I was on Marplan as a monotherapy with relief of all symptoms I had.
It was an amazing med and NArdil is it's successor.
