Sometimes I think if I read enough peoples reaction to a drug or study their pharmacology enough I can predict how we will react to the drug. Well I recently read about someones experience with desipramine and lexapro and it changed my mind.
The long and short of it,(no pun intended) is that Lexapro helped this poster's IBS with diarrhea and didn't cause sexual dysfuntion, but desipramine did not help with IBS(even though it is indicated for IBS) and caused sexual dysfunction. For me this just showed how much variability there is. Lexapro gave me loose stools and sexual dysfunction even at the lowest dose. This person's reaction was the exact opposite of mine. It just goes to show you really have to do the trials and try the drugs. Other peoples experiences are often of limited help. The one area I think reading about other peoples experiences can help is finding new treatment options that you may not know about yet, but you will never know how you will respond until you try it.
