I never really got anything out of BuSpar *BUT* I've heard that its a good so-called "augmentating agent" (I think that's what they call it...); basically, its useless on its own, but in combo with other meds, it can prove helpful.
I actually read online recently that they've co-prescribed buspirone w/ perphenazine for patients who had severe weight gain from (you guessed it) ZYPREXA. Apparently, the buspirone helped with anxiety and helped keep the perphenazine dose low (although they may have been keeping it low b/c they were more aware of side-effects and b/c they *assumed* the buspirone would be helpful...who knows?) and the patients responded well w/ minimal EPS.
As for Zyprexa+buspar...I don't know. It seems like you might want to see about the possibility of the zyprexa blood levels going up (that might be good or bad; I'm not a neuroleptic fan, so I'd be wary of that particular side effect).
Can you take benzos? propranolol? neurontin? lyrica? I'm not saying "don't take buspar!", but the stuff isn't that great. It really is a weak anti-psychotic, and I can't see how it could possibly boost Zyprexa's anti-anxiety properties. If the antipsychotic leaves you with remaining anxiety (or a *different* sort of anxiety, or increased anxiety, both of which are possible), I would think you'd want a sedative of some sort. But, hey, I'm not a doctor.
Good luck to you.
