Horrible response to first dose of Effexor

I had a half non-XR 50mg tab.
It brought on extremely wavy/blurred vision, pounding heart, and dizziness. I saw straight lines as wavy. Just one dose, 1/2 of a 50mg pill.
This was distressing, as I've had ocular migraine-like symptoms daily for months and was hoping the Effexor would help. It did in the past. Seemed to make it worse than ever.
Did not continue, of course.
