Adverse childhood experiences are quite common though often concealed. Over decades they are transmutated from psychosocial experience into organic disease, and they are the main determinant of the health and social well-being of the nation. What we recognize as common disorders in adult medicine and psychiatry are the result of what is not recognized in childhood.
