Maxie most of the meds were the SSRI's and benzos, and antipsychotics, clozaril was just getting started. At that time had to call a telephone number if a patient was going on it as they had to be regisistered. Nurses were taught what a meds brand, generic names were, their purpose, and the correct doseages, and side effects. No neurotrasmitter stuff. Just that serotonin baths in the synapses and the brain gets more of it. That's it. And working in mostly cardiac units, cancer, ICU, triage for ER, Post op and med/surg. Knew more about those meds and mostly Iv not orals. We mixed our own bags of antibiotics and insulin drips and stuff like that. Physch. Lots of klonopin and no TCA's no Maoi's ever were used and new atypicals were not out yet. Then in chemical dependency it was get people off of drug without detox. So lots of benzos and clonodine. Then some got an SSRI and some lithium if the doc thought they might be bipolar. Phillipa
