I hope you were referring to clonazapam, Phillipa,
Valium has a bit shorter half life, and in my experience does not cause such a dramatic "out of touch" with reality effect - forgetfulness is common with such meds, depression as well (feeling loss of interest in things)."Clonazepam has an unusually long half-life of 1850 hours, making it generally considered to be among the long-acting benzodiazepines. ..." But it seemed like next day I would already feel disoriented if I would skip the dose of klonopin.
While diazepam, seems to be more smooth, not so vicious. And remember, coming off these meds, can very difficult. Consider the cons and pros - my main con is memory and overall just avoiding things - for example, I used to have social anxiety - I would take clonazapam and feel depressed and really care less about going out or socializing. And then when you come off, the hypersensitivity to everything strikes. It takes at least 2-4 months (for me at least) for the feeling of just wanting to hide goes away.
