Nardil: Increased HR and Low BP are killing me

Posted by mantus on April 6, 2011, at 21:00:18

Hello,
If you have been following my posts you know I have been battling Nardil. I am now on 60mg which has a very small therapeutic effect, but have also been on 75mg which seems to help me a great deal more. The problem is my body appears to be hypersensitive to this med, and I continue to have side effect problems with no sign of improvement. On 75mg, I feel better, but I have severe insomnia and orthostatic hypotensions. Now on 60mg my sleep has improved, but my HR is raised and BP is too low. I'm a tired of feeling my resting HR now and it is in the 80's-90's when it has been in the 50-60 range my entire life. I especially hate when I stand up and my HR skyrockets to between 120-130. It makes me feel awful. My general BP is low and of course drops even lower when I stand, but I don't care so much about feeling dizzy every now and then, I just hate my HR issues. I feel like it is doing damage to my heart. I also noticed I can't workout hard, because my body just refuses to push itself, which I think has to be do to my low BP. If it is not that I'm really confused because I've always enjoyed working out and pushing myself. My biggest concern is that I will have to discontinue Nardil, when I feel like it is my last real medicinal option for improvement. For people that have had orthostatic hypotension issues while on Nardil, did your resting HR also go up and did you have difficulty exerting yourself? If the dizziness passed, did your hr also go back to normal and bp increase to normal levels without dropping so significantly when standing? I know some people take salt to increase their BP, but the problem is I still think my HR will be higher, which really doesn't help matters much. PLEASE, PLEASE give as many suggestions as possible, because I am completely lost right now and don't know what to do. I do not want to have to discontinue the Nardil until I can maybe try a higher dose again. I really don't want to add any more medications, as I am taking Ativan 1.5mg tid also (which I want to get off of). I guess, I just really want to know that if you have taken or are taking nardil or know anything about it, do you think my bp and hr will begin to normalize, because I have been on 60mg for several weeks, maybe a month, and although my sleep improved, my HR and BP aren't showing any signs of improvement at all. I have been on Nardil now for a little over 3 months total.

Thanks,
Mantus
