Naltrexone is only available as a brand name, or as a compounding option when at all... I don't come across any respectfully priced generics. Somebody probably had their palm greased at some point, but not simply that there is even more c*ck-up than conspiracy in this system; if something goes wrong, it usually doesn't get fixed.
The Italian pharmaceutical company Sigma Tau managed to patent the amino acid carnitine (nonsensical and never should have happened) in this country by making sizable campaign donations to Liberal party minister David Dingwall (who was also health minister) in the 1990s before corporate donations were banned. Now carnitine is a ridiculous limbo and is very hard to get a hold of except by rx, and never ever cheaply at any store like in the US.
Carnitine was supposed to be given an NPN sometime between February and April to allow normal sale, but of course as with everything, it never ended up happening. No information on why has been released.
The Conservatives in power now are even worse than the Liberals and tried teaming up with the pharmaceutical companies to implement Codex Alimentarus which would have made all supplements prescription only.
