Supplements vs dietary changes

Posted by Vasilis on August 15, 2011, at 22:18:48

Hello again,
Going through a very difficult time of my life and waiting for the Prozac to take action, i came across some interesting articles suggesting Tryptophan and Tyrosine for depression. I know it has been discussed here before but i would like your opinion.
Tryptophan is metabolised into serotonin and Tyrosine into dopamine. I am wondering now, why to take a supplement of let's say 500mg of Tryptophan and not eat a nice soya meal which will give me the same amount and even better? I know that the amino acids on the meal compete each other and i am not sure of the quantity which will be metabolised. But, anyway, what do you think? Could we fight depression with changes in our diet?
