Should Cortisol fasting Test Be Based on Diurnal R

Posted by Phillipa on November 28, 2011, at 11:51:41

I have to take a cortisol fasting test firt taking two dexamethasone tablets nights before. The test fasting time is based on normal sleep times where a person goes to sleep about ll pm and is up at 7-8am. Since I go to sleep at 3am and wake at l0am wouldn't my circadian rhythm times make an 8am fasting middle of night for my schedule and l0-llam be more accurate for me as cotisol rises when wake up and lowest when go to sleep. My endo while back said diurnal rhythms change with different sleep schedules. So for some reason the RN at the docs doesn't get this and keeps saing that 8am or not accurate. This is the middle of the night or sleep time for our schedule. Planning at getting it done at ll am. RN claims it will be inaccurate if not at 8am. And we are going back and forth on times. It's common sense to me. Or am I missing something. Since testing for Cushings it's important to be accurate. Already had 24 hours urine and cortisol was inaccurate as normal high? Thanks Phillipa
