I don't know what a SolTab is, but when I took Remeron I swallowed it whole. I was in hospital so the nurses would have said if I was doing it incorrectly. Does Remeron come in more than one preparation? If so, you can definitely get one that can be swallowed whole if the SolTabs can't.
Everyone goes on about how Remeron makes you drowsy and I guess it may at first, but I actually found it very activating. I had a HUGE amount of (good!) energy during the daytime and my sleeping problems abated. I think it's from the neurotonin kicking in more at higher doses? Anyway, your mileage may vary.
