Prazosin is an old drug originally indicated for the treatment of high blood pressure. It is a NE alpha-1 receptor antagonist. More recently, it has been used for PTSD. I still have some research left to do if I have the motivation. One thing it might do is to reduce the excessive activity of neurons in the cingulate Brodmann Area 25. This is the target site for deep brain stimulation (DBS). Does prazosin mimic DBS? I'm not sure, but it is an attractive idea.
I am now exploring the possibility that those cases of depression that are the result of childhood abuse or neglect are responsive to prazosin. Such cases may represent developmental PTSD. It is well-established that prazosin is an effective treatment for adult PTSD. Unlike adult PTSD, developmental PTSD is occult. There are none of the classic symptoms of adult PTSD.
