Minocycline is an interesting drug because it has various other properties, as well as being an antibiotic. It is thought to affect the glutamatergic system of the brain. Minocycline is also claimed to have an anti-inflammatory effect.

Minocycline penetrates into the central nervous system to a greater extent than most antibiotics, and can cause dizziness and vertigo, especially in women.

If minocycline can indeed help some types of schizophrenia, this finding could not be generalised to other antibiotics. This is very interesting research, but it's at an early stage.
