I'm not on here too often but saw your post. Your symptoms are really similar to mine with my first time on Nardil starting in 1998. The medication induced euphoria was actually quite enjoyable, but as you said, not the real Nardil antidepressant effect. I still remember the brain zaps, as you describe them. Seems my period of hypomania lasted longer though. At least 6 months after the Nardil initially took effect. I remember making several dumb financial decisions during this time. Watch out for that.
I have been off of Nardil about a half dozen times since starting it 14 years ago. One time I was off for 9 months because the P-Doc I was seeing absolutely refused to put me back on the only med that had ever helped my atypical, double depression and social anxiety. Now, If I go off the med, I will have at least a 2 month stash for emergencies. Like a know-it-all P-Doc.
Since the initial use of Nardil, I have never had hypomania again from the med. Even after being off for months at a time. I used to blame this on the reformulation of 2003, but I've read of many with the hypomania since then.
Some Doctor's will take you off Nardil if you have the med induced hypomania. I believe that atypical depression lies somewhere on the bipolar spectrum. I think this is where the euphoria and hypomania comes from.
Well, I did Google Jedi hypomania Nardil site:www.dr-bob.org and came up with 771 hits. I guess I used to post more. But not that much! LOL
Nardil can work when all else fails. In my case, it is the only thing that works for my major depression out of 45+ different antidepressants and augmenters.
Good Luck and Be Well,
