Not to mention the modeling they use is completely whack. Listing groups of symptoms that rely on subjective assessment of an interviewer who might not even know the patient that well--that's not a good way to diagnose.
Every time I read DSM formulations, it sounds like I have basically everything in there. And, they keep having to add new diseases to the thing. To me, those are both signs of a broken system that needs to be retooled from the beginning.
I also notice that the best mental health providers I've had so far are not reliant on the DSM diagnoses and often seem contemptuous of it.
