Calmed me down, and worked fairly quickly, I would say felt better by the third day of treatment.

The extreme sedation was the worst side effect. I know it does something to the heart (qt interval) but not sure how that may have affected me.

Well based on my experience I'd say if you are having an acute manic or mixed episode it could be useful. I also had no weight gain, I took it for about 3 months. Not sure about its use as a long term med. Not an antidepressant for me.
