All I can tell you is that neither unilateral nor bilateral ECT did a thing for my depression. And the experience is horrible -- debilitating headaches, memory loss, awful, awful awful. For nearly six weeks after bilateral ECT I could not remember the simplest things -- names of neighbors and friends, street names, where store were located. I was barely functional. While having ECT I was hospitalized and would wake up not knowing where I was, not recognizing the doctors and nurses and aides and social workers. Friends came to visit and I have zero recollection. So I am not a fan of ECT.
