curious about dopamine

Just curious about this, since I just read Awakenings. Parkinson's seems to be caused by a lack of dopamine and managed with dopamine-enhancing drugs. Yet AP's increase dopamine and the most dangerous side-effects are parkinsonian symptoms (tremors, tics, myclonic jerks, etc). Just wondering if anyone here understands this.
