Benzos are a controlled substance in the U.S. They can't be sent through the mail, at least in my state (so you can't fill prescriptions through mail order for example). In my state they have to be signed for each time, I have to show a driver's license, the whole nine yards (in addition to a prescription of course). The RX number on each bottle starts with a C to designate controlled substance. They are commonly tested for in drug screens.
I have also noticed that pharmacies will give me an automatic call every 30 days to refill other meds like citalopram or allergy meds, but they will never give me a reminder to refill a benzo, which I suspect is caused by their controlled substance status.
