patient assistance programs

Posted by g_g_g_unit on July 15, 2013, at 9:19:06

So, apparently you can write to drug companies if you're in a financially difficult situation and be considered for aid.

Has anyone ever tried this?

I spoke to Sanofi-Aventus here and while they don't have an official Riluzole assistance program, they said they might be able to help in exceptional cases. So my plan was to try it for a month or two and then if it works have my GP contact them as requested.

I was just trying not to get my hopes up too much -- well a) that the drug will help, and then b) that they'll agree to assist, though I wonder if anyone here has applied for that sort of thing before and how one can maximize one's chance?

The other snag is it's off-label, but the drug costs $30 on the PBS for ALS, so I can't imagine why anyone would ask for help unless it was off-label ($790 a month, no coverage from insurance).
