In the UK, Librium (chlordiazepoxide) is the no.1 choice for bringing people off alcohol. I dont know why they choose Librium when technically ANY benzo can be used.
One thing I can say is that it gives a much clearer head than clonazepam and diazepam. When I've been on detox I've found myself walking miles around town. Why? Because I can. And I believe it may have a mild stimulant quality too. And this may be why they give it to alcoholics because it keeps them busy and gives them momentum enough to see the withdrawal all the way thru. This effect seems to come on after 2-3 days.
Another kinda paradoxical reaction I've had is from temazepam. Taking 30mg at night then staying up all night whilst chatting my jaw off.
Just my thoughts & experiences.
