abilify questions

Hello I have been given some suggestions to add abilify to my pooping out Lexapro... I am clueless as to what abilify even does at low dose to help augment an ssri. can anyone explain how this works? also anxiety is a big part of my problem (gad) so would abilify help that or hinder? od should I just try an snri (which I have never tried)always ssri's
