Pesticides used on foods could be one cause. They've been links to Parkinson's Disease.

Preservatives in food such as BHA and BHT have been linked to altering brain chemistry.

Cholesterol lowering drugs, Statins, have been linked to an increase risk of Diabetes, Depression and Cataracts. And if I remember right, a few years they believed they caused an increase chance of Alzheimer's Disease, but lately they say they actually decrease the chance. As far as I'm concerned, the jury is still out.
