Med-induced Blackouts?

I've had my issues with abusing meds/dry substances in the past, usually painkillers. I currently take 8mg Ativan daily as part of my regimen. If I ever add painkillers into the mix (for legitimate reasons--like migraines) I sometimes miss the week. It seems I'm having blackouts the way alcoholics do. I don't drink. Is this the same (I haven't used pain pills because of this; my tolerance is too dangerously high, if I use them I blackout; and it throws me into addict mentality)? Anyone else able to relate?
