If you take Trileptal or Tegretol, you might have to take more Lamictal. These two drugs are called enzyme inducers, and they cause Lamictal to disappear more quickly from the blood stream.Personally, I found that I feel better when taking Lamictal twice a day. Lamictal XR, an extended release version, is available if you absolutely must dose once a day.
Some people experience a passing improvement in depression at dosages as low as 50 mg/day that can last a day or two. However, a more permanent response usually isn't seen until one reaches 150 - 300 mg/day. 200 mg/day seems to be the dosage most often arrived at.
