Atarax is not a mood stabilizer at all but an anti-histamine. It does, however antagonize 5ht2a receptors, an attribute shared by antipsychotics.

Instead of Tramadol, ask for Nucynta, which is excellent for pain. Its an NRI and a mu-opioid agonist-it won't make you manic like the Tramadol.

I know you don't want to, but I think you should try Lithium.
