Protective? I don't know. Brintellix is a full agonist at serotonin 5-HT1a receptors. I don't know how this might affect the risk of developing akathisia. However, Brintellix blocks an array of 5-HT receptors, including 5-HT7. This receptor is currently being looked at as a target for antidepressant drugs.
