It was my 3yr in college (I was 22 due to a transfer) and I had fallen into the habit of smoking pot daily to kinda pass days. I had done that for a few years and shortly after reading about Sam-e (which I think had just "come out") I decided to give it a try. With in a week or two I had a full blow psychotic manic episode (crazy behavior in public - telling people I was god etc).
To be fair I can't be sure the addition of SAM-e was 100% responsible (could have been bad pot or just my time for my illness to come out) but I always think it was a huge factor.
That was 1999. I had a lot of episodes from 00-09 which I finally got serious about totally giving up any pot use, alcohol, anything recreational. I didn't have another episode until last year when I came off Marplan and low dose seroquel and added Belviq. For me my manic episodes always seem to be related to me messing w/ a new suppliment/chemical/etc. After that Belviq episode the hospital I ended up in put me on Lithium which I only been on for short periods before. The next doctor I got after being discharged has kept me on it since that point. I really want to get off it (only 600mg) but he's got the mindset that I need it (or something as strong). Meanwhile I'd gone from 2010 to 2015 w/o (Marplan, Lamictal, Seroquel)....I'm back on those same meds now + Lithium.....I wouldn't say I'm great but we're working on pushing the lamictal a little more than I have before (200 XR now which is my most and maybe to 300 soon).
60 Marplan is what I take and I can't tell if it's helping much anymore. I did well on 2010 through 2015 on only 30.....so I'm thinking maybe I'll try less. I know I mentioned on this forum that going up once during those years led to some spaceiness....maybe I still have that but I'm just used to it.
Not sure I'm rambling off topic but I just am. If there are any words missing or difficult to read sentences it's due to the Lamictal....
