Clinically (not theoretically), I think it makes sense to discontinue desipramine - even if only briefly - in order to be certain that it is not exacerbating your withdrawal syndrome. If your doctor has already worked with the abrupt cross-over of these two drugs, perhaps he is sure of himself. You can always restart the desipramine at any time. You need to be sure that it is not making the withdrawal symptom worse, extending them in time, or triggering a manic reaction.
