> I have bipolar II disorder sind more than 15 years and I have combo of mainly Lithium, Lamictal, Parnate, T4. I have this combo for a long time now but since some month I have problems to sleep (wake up several times). I was thinking to add melatonin but I dont know if its only helpfull to fall asleep or also for the waking ups during the night? Further I read that melatonin should be used with caution if you have bipolat disorder?
I've taken all those medications at some point. And I'm currently on ketamine, Lithium, Parnate, T3 and T4. All the medications you are taking, in my experience anyway, produce insomnia. Especially the Parnate. I use a sh*t ton of Melatonin and I have bipolar. It might as well be placebo but I do it anyway. Bought 5 grams bulk powder off ebay and I just take like a key bump every night and wash it down with juice. I don't even bother to measure it anymore but I probably take something like 50 mg nightly. It does jack.
Sleep can be a bitch with Parnate. When I was on 80 mg the only thing that could touch the insomnia was 60 mg of Dalmane. Which is a lot, but I got a deep, dreamless, uninterrupted sleep. The nice thing about Dalmane is that it's got an active metabolite with a very long half life so should you ever want to quit, it will be basically self tapering.
But other than that Seroquel 50-100 mg can be pretty effective for sleep. Or 100 mg of Benadryl. Although For some reason the sedation of Benadryl goes away after one day of taking it (for me anyway) so I can only use it about twice a week.
