I've never found nortriptyline to be sedating. It's not like amitriptyline.I thought nortriptyline was helping for depression. That's why I suggested the combination. Just throwing it out there... Higher dosages of mirtazapine and nortriptyline may work synergistically to increase NE along with the 5-HT2a/c and 5-HT3 receptor blockade.
Perhaps you can make the switch from nortriptyline to mirtazapine first and evaluate your level of deepression. If you see that your depression gets worse, you might then restart nortriptyline and reevaluate depression and sleep continuity.
