antihistamine effect isn't anxiolytic.
Most probably it is the combination of strong SRI + anticholinergic effects + 5HT antagonism.> All I know is I tried Clomipramine once and it was such a dirty drug with strong side effects that I think it would work really well for social anxiety amongst elephants. It's that strong. :-) Honestly I think the social anxiety benefit from it is probably due to the very strong antihistamine effect more than anything else. The serotonin stuff and norepinephrine stuff helps.
