Medication Consult Feeling Oversedated

Posted by Helen Ball on August 18, 2020, at 8:40:07

Hello Everyone

I know there are a number of contributors who have a lot of knowledge about medications. I wonder if you would comment on my regime of pharmaceuticals. I feel as if I am being over medicated. I'm a generally healthy and active 61 year old woman.

I have recently had a nasty exacerbation of my OCD after twenty years of relatively manageable symptoms. I was very anxious and not sleeping. My primary fear generating my OCD is a fear of not sleeping. My psych doc has me currently on:

Paxil 40 mg in a.m.
Pregablin 100 mg @ a.m., 4 p.m. and nighttime. (I am trying to stay away from benzos as recommended by therapist.)
zopiclone 7.5 mg and trazadone 50 mg (along with my Gabapentin at night).

I was dx with a UTI a week ago and Macrobid added (1 more day left). I feel worse after started Macrobid. I usually start feeling spaced out and not myself around 2 p.m. or 3 p.m. I get pressure in my ears and it feels like I'm talking through a tube - that's the only way to describe it, and I feel a degree of derealization.I start feeling more myself around 5 p.m. I have (since starting psychotropic meds a month and half ago (have been on Paxil 20 mg prior), symptoms of terrible memory (can't remember putting kettle on, can't remember if I fed cat, took my meds, etc.), I'm wobbly on my feet and lose my balance occasionally, spaced out and just don't feel like me. I can't see any drug interactions when I search on web. Does anyone have any pharmaceutical knowledge/insight and comments to make? I don't speak to my psychiatrist for another two weeks. I am going to slowly lower the pregablin,(Maximum dose), and see if that makes a difference. I will have to remove one of the sleep meds eventually - as how can I face my fear of not sleeping and do my exposure response therapy if I'm knocked out every night?

Thank you everyone in this support community.

Helen
