I think that is more so with Pentothal (sodium thiopental).

It catches you off-guard, much like alcohol, ie. you let down your guard and you get less careful about what truths you reveal. It dulls your intellect and lulls you into something like a false sense of security and/or comfort.

Like drunken rambling, you should probably treat any confessions under barbiturates with a grain of salt.
